Today, I am going to cover a topic that some of you may have had to deal with during your career or daily tasks. Missing applications that seemed to drift off the screen or are no longer visbile. I know right, like how does that happen?

So why or how does it happen? From my experience, it is either due to one of the following three reasons:

  1. You switched the laptop from your home computer with 3 monitors and went to work that has 2 monitors
  2. The monitors got rescanned with a different ID
  3. Hardware or driver change that confused Windows on the monitor setup

One of the most common tasks on a dual-monitor setup is moving applications from one screen to another. Normally this task involves dragging the application title bar across the monitors via your mouse. However, I found a simple keyboard shortcut provides the best solution for solving this pareticular issue.

First you need to select the missing applicaiton on your taskbar and then you can press this keyboard shortcut all at the same time: Windows Key + Shift + Left/Right Arrow

Keyboard_Shift_Win_Arrow
This keyboard shortcut will instantly transfer windows from one screen to another while maintaining the window size and relative position. This timesaver is just another quick tip that I use daily and I hope that it helps out anyone else who uses two or more monitors on a Windows computer.
